Fort Carlton Provincial Historic Park preserves the site of a Hudson's Bay Company trading post that operated from 1810 to 1885 on the North Saskatchewan River, serving as a major provisioning and trading hub along the Carlton Trail — the overland route that connected Red River to Edmonton before the railway arrived. The post played a central role in the numbered treaty negotiations of the 1870s and was briefly occupied during the 1885 Resistance before being burned and abandoned.

Today, a reconstructed palisade and buildings bring the site back to life, and interpretive programming during the summer season adds depth to a visit. The park sits in a scenic location above the North Saskatchewan River valley, and the combination of Indigenous history, fur trade heritage, and 1885 Resistance connections makes it one of the richest historical sites in the province. Fort Carlton is an easy addition to a trip along Highway 11 between Saskatoon and Prince Albert.
