Holy Trinity Anglican Church at Stanley Mission is one of the most remarkable historic buildings in Saskatchewan — a beautiful white Gothic Revival church constructed in 1854 on the Churchill River, built under the direction of missionary Robert Hunt using materials hauled by canoe and dog team through hundreds of kilometres of boreal wilderness. The church is a National Historic Site and is widely considered the oldest standing building in Saskatchewan.
The structure's survival for 170 years in this remote setting is itself extraordinary, and the building is still used as an active place of worship. Visitors arrive by floatplane, canoe, or the long road into Stanley Mission, and the combination of architectural beauty, historical depth, and remote boreal setting makes this one of the most memorable stops in the provincial heritage system.
