Steele Narrows Provincial Historic Park marks the site of the final engagement of the 1885 North-West Resistance, fought on May 28, 1885 between Cree warriors under Chief Big Bear and pursuing Canadian militia forces at a narrow channel on Loon Lake. Interpretive trails present the events of that day from multiple perspectives, including those of the Cree, who were defending their families in desperate circumstances.

The wooded shoreline setting on Loon Lake retains much of the character it held in 1885, lending the site a quiet, contemplative atmosphere that suits its subject matter. Steele Narrows is a relatively small park with modest facilities, but its historical significance gives it genuine weight.
